Consultation begins on plans for new amenities at Worser Bay
At the beginning of 2026 Worser Bay Boating Club and the Boat & Beach Wise Education Centre commissioned the Landscape Architecture Programme at Victoria University of Wellington to interpret their proposals for new amenities at Worser Bay and turn them into a set of concept plans.
Carles Martinez-Almoyna Gual, a lecturer in landscape architecture and master student Ananda Acharya did not disappoint when they submitted their final plans earlier this week.
Their report 'Te Kahu Moana ki Kākāriki - A community-initiated cloak of protection over the sea, alongside amenities to support education, recreation, culture and events at Worser Bay', does a great job of balancing recreation and environmental management at Worser Bay by enabling space for conservation activities, sailing, education, cultural interpretation, events, and lifesaving activities while also supporting long-term dune restoration and coastal resilience.
Boat & Beach Wise Trust chairperson Dean Stanley said, "we are delighted with how Carles and Ananda have captured our ideas and presented them visually in an easy-to-understand format. We are really looking forward to hearing what the wider community think of what is proposed".
"Through to the end of October we will be collecting feedback from the community on the plans before making a presentation to Wellington City Council to propose next steps at the beginning of November".
A series of hui are being held at Worser Bay Boating Club for people to come and hear more about the plans.
