Marine Management Area and Coastal Recreation Amenity proposals for Worser Bay
Worser Bay Boating Club is part of Yachting New Zealand’s nationwide initiative called Moanamana, which is aiming to help restore the mana of moana. The club is working with local schools to establish a NZL Blue Belt site to protect and restore marine biodiversity around Worser Bay. The club and the schools are using a set of tools to monitor the health of the Worser Bay marine environment, and are working on a series of projects to help restore that environment.
It is proposed that a Worser Bay Marine Management Area, including a voluntary no-take zone around the club, be put in place for the next ten years to give the restoration projects a chance to succeed.
Meanwhile, Wellington City Council is developing a new Coastal Reserves Management Plan to provide direction for the management, protection, and enhancement of Wellington’s coastal reserves, parks, and beaches. As part of the Coastal Reserves Management Plan process, Worser Bay Boating Club are proposing enhancements that will add recreational amenity value to Worser Bay.
