Lock the weekend of Fri 30 January to Sunday 1 February 2026 in your calendar now as the WBBC centenary weekend is one you will not want to miss. We've got three days of fun filled celebrations in store for everyone. Here is some information about what is on each day followed by a link to where you can buy tickets for the each of functions over the weekend.
Toast 100 years of sailing at Worser Bay at The Worser Way book launch
Friday 30 January 5.30pm to 8.30pm
We kick of the weekend's events with the launch of 'The Worser Way' history book. The proof copy has arrived in the country and it is stunning. There are 343 pages, 24 chapters, and 100s of photos tracking the history of the sailing in Worser Bay from early Māori settlement through to the current day. If you haven't done so already, place your order for a book and then get a ticket to the launch where you will be able to pick up your copy.
Centenary club day and BBQ dinner
All day Saturday 31 January with BBQ dinner and drinks from 4.30pm onwards
Saturday is going to be a big day at the club. The morning will kick off from 9.00am with 'Optisquad' and 'Blue Fleet' sessions with our latest crop of new young sailors learning the ropes in the bay. From 11.30am we will have the usual weekend supply of pies and sandwiches available from the kitchen for lunch. Racing gets underway from 1.00pm with two races back to back for all classes. Then from 4.30pm onwards the bar will be open and a buffet style BBQ dinner will be available for everyone from 6.30pm. Come down for part or all of the day and experience what club life is like after 100 years.
Centenary celebration lunch
Sunday 1 February from 11.30am onwards
“An opportunity to share tales from days when the wind was stronger and the bay worser”
To cap off the weekend, we are hosting a centenary celebration lunch at the club. Bring your partners, your memories, and settle in for an enjoyable buffet lunch. This will be an opportunity to reconnect, reminisce and share tales from years gone by. We’ll have a couple of speakers and we’ll mix up seating between courses so you get a chance to chat with a range of people. Everyone welcome - current members and old salts alike!
You can buy tickets to one or more of the functions through the following link.
And if you haven't placed an order for a copy of the book then you can do that through the following link.
