Worser Bay Boating Club was named Club of the Year at the recent Sport Wellington Awards for 2016, it was a tremendous thrill for the club to be announced as the winner of the award. The seventeen members present did their best to demonstrate their jubilation to the other 700 people present.
Dean Stanley was joined on stage by Vice Commodore Alastair and Rear Commodore to receive the trophy
In accepting the trophy Dean outlined that it had been a great year for the club and an exciting time ahead with the rebuild project progressing. The other three finalists were Mana Kayak Racing Club, PIC Netball Club, and Wellington Rowing Club.
They were acknowledged by Dean as worthy contenders for the award. Also mentioned was that it was particularly fitting that the club of the year category was sponsored by Pak’N Save Kilbirnie who through their sports trust had been a significant supporter of the club, and many other sports, in the Eastern Suburbs over many years.
Take a bow everybody as it takes a team effort for a club to excel and no doubt that will be part of Dean’s message when he gathers his thoughts following the elation of the night. It was great too to observe at the end of the evening the number of people who came up to congratulate Dean and to offer their best wishes to the club.
