Membership Application

We are a volunteer run organisation in the mould of typical New Zealand community based clubs. We invite people who enjoy sailing dinghy class yachts, and the company of others who also enjoy sailing and racing to apply for membership. Young and old, families and singles are welcome equally. We encourage Members to own their own boat, however until Members are ready to take this step, there are plenty of opportunities to sail as crew or borrow club boats.

How to apply for Membership

If you are a returning member, simply download the MS Word version of the membership form  or the PDF version on the membership form and follow the instructions on the form. If you are completely new to the club, please contact us and come along for a chat and a look around to get the feel of the place. You are welcome to come and try out our facilities before joining as long as you are there on the invitation of a club member or club officer that you have made contact with.

Membership Fees

The club sets annual membership subscription fees with a fee structure involving categories: Adults, families, youth and junior and non-sailing members. Fees go to the ongoing running of the club, such as land lease, petrol for rescue boats, cleaning, repairs and maintenance, power and telephone, alarm monitoring, refreshments, licenses. We supplement fees by applying for community grants to various organisations to help pay for the public services such as coaching, rescue boats, etc. All club officers are volunteers and all members are expected to volunteer some time to the club in the form of working bees, running regattas, race officer, rescue boat driving, race management, kitchen duties etc. Volunteerism is part of the experience and the New Zealand way.

Membership Benefits

Members get to enjoy the club facilities collectively (the club hall is available for hire by members for special events such as birthday, wedding reception, at a very reasonable rate). Participation in organised club racing on Saturdays is at no charge. Free coaching is available for juniors during the season.  Cups and trophies are awarded at the end of the season for a variety of a successes e.g. class line honours, class first on handicap, champion of champions, etc. Boat storage is available to active sailing members at the club facilities for an additional annual fee.

Membership Rules

The club rules that all members must observe are published in the Club Almanac.

Club Organisation

The club is an incorporated society within New Zealand and follows the standard democratic processes, financial reporting, auditing and election of officers required of an incorporated society. An AGM of all club members is held annually to elect club officers (see Club Almanac on process and timeframes for nomination) and to receive and approve club reports.

Club Success

Many club members who come up through the junior and youth programmes go on to success in regional, national and international events.
