Club Opening Day Report

We had close to 50 boats competing in our opening day race on a pleasant sunny winter/spring day. Even the water temperature wasn't too bad.

Spectrum in action.

123388 idling along

Two of our expanded fleet of P sailors

Jenny and PD out on the water - good to see.

Skiff - there must have been some wind after all

A brilliant day even if the wind was extremely light at the start of racing, as it slowly switched from a Southerly to a Northerly. This left a few really struggling to make the start on time. Both races used class yardsticks to adjust times for the various classes. In the senior race Matthew Steven was the winner of the Mumford Holiday Trophy and in the junior race Cain Anderson was first. Full results are on the website (click on "Race 1" for elapsed and adjusted times) where you can see that there was a very good sized fleet out for the first race of the season. Certainly there were more Optimists out than in previous years along with a couple of P's from the P Class fleet that continues its resurgence that began last year. The season was officially declared open by Kerry Prendergast, Mayor of Wellington at the after match function that was well attended by sailors and non-sailors alike and including the club's special guests.
