About the Worser Bay Boating ClubWe are a YNZ affiliated sailing club and volunteer run organisation in the mold of typical New Zealand family oriented community based clubs - quintessential New Zealand. We invite people who enjoy sailing dinghy class yachts, and the company of others who also enjoy sailing and racing to apply for membership. Young and old, families and singles are welcome equally. We encourage Members to own their own boat, however until Members are ready to take this step, there are plenty of opportunities to sail as crew or borrow club boats. Have a goIt is not necessary to become a member to give sailing a try. We run learn to sail courses for young and old. However even if the course schedule doesn't line up with your current desire to give it a go, that is no problem as there are Sunburst skippers who are happy to take on an adult or youth learner crew and show them the ropes. For juniors we have an active Saturday morning programme that is able to accomodate juniors who are keen to give it a go. Rescue boat drivers and crew and race officer assistantsEven if sailing is not quite your thing, but you like just being part of it, on the water or off the water there are plenty of valued volunteer positions to be filled. We put potential rescue boat skippers through a NZ Coastguard and Yachting New Zealand certified course and leading up to this course we would expect the prospective skippers to spend time on the water as rescue boat crew to gain experience. Running races requires not only a race officer and rescue boat skippers and crews but also on-shore assistance such as starting and finishing races (recording results) as well as using the club marine vhf radio to communicate with rescue boats and the Race Officer. We organise NZ Coastguard instructor run and certified marine VHF radio courses on a as needed basis.
How to apply for MembershipSee the Membership page on this web site for details Club OrganisationThe club is an incorporated society within New Zealand and follows the standard democratic processes, financial reporting, auditing and election of officers required of an incorporated society. An AGM of all club members is held annually to elect club officers (see Club Almanac on process and timeframes for nomination) and to receive and approve club reports. Club SuccessMany club members who come up through the junior and youth programmes go on to success in regional, national and international events.

Welcome to the 2011-2012 sailing season at Worser Bay. I hope you and your family enjoy your time at the club, both on and off the water. It’s a great place to spend the summer. We have an exciting racing schedule this year, hosting the Laser nationals in January, Zephyr nationals in February, Skiff champs in March, the OK Dinghy Hurricane Classic, and our own Worser Bay regattas. Plenty of other local regattas and training opportunities are also available, check out the programme in this almanac and also the WYA website. Meanwhile if you just want to improve your sailing there is a wealth of knowledge within the club; if you have questions or need help please just ask. HebtroMake sure you are around for Hebtro Trophy, when we host the big boats from RPNYC and raise funds for our learn-to-sail programme. Word has it our in-house band, The Venturies, have been hard at work over winter, so look forward to being entertained off the water and breaking out a few dance moves on the new floor. TalentSailors from Worser Bay continue to showcase their talents internationally. Well done William, George, and Henry from the Optimist fleet, who all represented NZ overseas during the winter. And of course congratulations to Josh who is currently ranked second in the Lasers, good luck for the Olympic campaign. New Committee MembersWe have an incredibly enthusiastic and dedicated committee working behind the scenes, and this year welcome Luke our new Vice Commodore, Sue as the new Rear Commodore, and Mark, Belinda, Richard, James, and Craig to the team. Thank you to Andrew, Brett, and Bubble, who have been so generous with their time and knowledge in recent years, for their outstanding contribution to the club. Finding out moreThe Club Almanac and Web Site contains pretty much everything you need to know. Remember to support the advertisers who make it possible.
